وَدّدُوْ لَوْ
لَوْ تُدْهِنُ
تُدْ هِ نُ فَیُدْهِنُوْنَ
فَ يُدْ هِ نُوْٓ نْ
وَ لَا تُطِعْ
تُ طِعْ كُلَّ
كُلّ لَ حَلَّافٍ
حَلّ لَا فِمّ مَّهِیْنٍ
مَ هِىْٓ نْ
هَمّ مَا زِمّ مَّشَّآءٍۭ
مَشّ شَآ ءِ مْ بِنَمِیْمٍ
بِ نَ مِىْٓ مْ
مَنّ نَا عِلّ لِّلْخَیْرِ
لِلْ خَىْ رِ مُعْتَدٍ
مُعْ تَ دِنْ اَثِیْمٍ
اَ ثِىْٓ مْ
عُ تُلّ لِمْ بَعْدَ
بَعۡ دَ ذٰلِكَ
ذَا لِ كَ زَنِیْمٍ
زَ نِىْٓ مْ
اَنْ كَانَ
كَا نَ ذَا
ذَا مَالٍ
مَا لِنْ وّ وَّ بَنِیْنَ
وَ بَ نِىْٓ نْ
اِذَا تُتْلٰی
تُتْ لَا عَلَیْهِ
عَ لَىْ هِ اٰیٰتُنَا
آ يَا تُ نَا قَالَ
قَا لَ اَسَاطِیْرُ
اَسَا طِىْ رُلْ الْاَوَّلِیْنَ
اَوّ وَ لِىْٓ نْ
سَ نَ سِ مُ هُوْ عَلَی
عَ لَلْ الْخُرْطُوْمِ
خُرْ طُوْٓ مْ
اِنّ نَا بَلَوْنٰهُمْ
بَ لَوْ نَا هُمْ كَمَا
كَ مَا بَلَوْنَاۤ
بَ لَوْ نَآ اَصْحٰبَ
اَصْ حَا بَلْ الْجَنَّةِ ۚ
جَنّ نَ ةِ اِذْ
اِذْ اَقْسَمُوْا
اَقۡ سَ مُوۡ لَیَصْرِمُنَّهَا
لَ يَصْ رِ مُنّ نَ هَا مُصْبِحِیْنَ
مُصْ بِ حِىْٓ نْ
وَ لَا یَسْتَثْنُوْنَ
يَسْ تَثْ نُوْٓ نْ
فَ طَا فَ عَلَیْهَا
عَ لَىْ هَا طَآىِٕفٌ
طَآ ءِ فُمّ مِّنْ
مِرّ رَّبِّكَ
رَبّ بِ كَ وَ هُمْ
وَ هُمْ نَآىِٕمُوْنَ
نَآ ءِ مُوْٓ نْ
They wish you would compromise so they would yield ˹to you˺.

They wish that you would soften [in your position], so they would soften [toward you].
— Saheeh International
And do not obey the despicable, vain oath-taker,
— Dr. Mustafa Khattab, the Clear Quran
And do not obey every worthless habitual swearer
— Saheeh International
slanderer, gossip-monger,
— Dr. Mustafa Khattab, the Clear Quran
[And] scorner, going about with malicious gossip -
— Saheeh International
withholder of good, transgressor, evildoer,
— Dr. Mustafa Khattab, the Clear Quran
A preventer of good, transgressing and sinful,
— Saheeh International
brute, and—on top of all that—an illegitimate child.
— Dr. Mustafa Khattab, the Clear Quran
Cruel, moreover, and an illegitimate pretender.1
— Saheeh International
Now, ˹simply˺ because he has been blessed with ˹abundant˺ wealth and children,
— Dr. Mustafa Khattab, the Clear Quran
Because he is a possessor of wealth and children,
— Saheeh International
whenever Our revelations are recited to him, he says, “Ancient fables!”
— Dr. Mustafa Khattab, the Clear Quran
When Our verses are recited to him, he says, "Legends of the former peoples."
— Saheeh International
We will soon mark his snout.1
— Dr. Mustafa Khattab, the Clear Quran
We will brand him upon the snout.1
— Saheeh International
Indeed, We have tested those ˹Meccans˺ as We tested the owners of the garden—when they swore they would surely harvest ˹all˺ its fruit in the early morning,
— Dr. Mustafa Khattab, the Clear Quran
Indeed, We have tried them as We tried the companions of the garden, when they swore to cut its fruit in the [early] morning
— Saheeh International
leaving no thought for Allah’s Will.1
— Dr. Mustafa Khattab, the Clear Quran
Without making exception.1
— Saheeh International
Then it was struck by a torment from your Lord while they slept,
— Dr. Mustafa Khattab, the Clear Quran
So there came upon it [i.e., the garden] an affliction from your Lord while they were asleep.
