Or do they have associate-gods ˹supporting this claim˺? Then let them bring forth their associate-gods, if what they say is true.
— Dr. Mustafa Khattab, the Clear Quran
Or do they have partners?1 Then let them bring their partners, if they should be truthful.
— Saheeh International
˹Beware of˺ the Day the Shin ˹of Allah˺ will be bared,1 and the wicked will be asked to prostrate, but they will not be able to do so,
— Dr. Mustafa Khattab, the Clear Quran
The Day the shin will be uncovered1 and they are invited to prostration but they [i.e., the disbelievers] will not be able,
— Saheeh International
with eyes downcast, totally covered with disgrace. For they were ˹always˺ called to prostrate ˹in the world˺ when they were fully capable ˹but they chose not to˺.
— Dr. Mustafa Khattab, the Clear Quran
Their eyes humbled, humiliation will cover them. And they used to be invited to prostration while they were sound.1
— Saheeh International
So leave to Me ˹O Prophet˺ those who reject this message. We will gradually draw them to destruction in ways they cannot comprehend.
— Dr. Mustafa Khattab, the Clear Quran
So leave Me, [O Muḥammad], with [the matter of] whoever denies this statement [i.e., the Qur’ān]. We will progressively lead them [to punishment] from where they do not know.1
— Saheeh International
I ˹only˺ delay their end for a while, but My planning is flawless.
— Dr. Mustafa Khattab, the Clear Quran
And I will give them time. Indeed, My plan is firm.
— Saheeh International
Or are you asking them for a reward ˹for the message˺ so that they are overburdened by debt?
— Dr. Mustafa Khattab, the Clear Quran
Or do you ask of them a payment, so they are by debt burdened down?
— Saheeh International
Or do they have access to ˹the Record in˺ the unseen, so they copy it ˹for all to see˺?
— Dr. Mustafa Khattab, the Clear Quran
Or have they [knowledge of] the unseen, so they write [it] down?
— Saheeh International
So be patient with your Lord’s decree, and do not be like ˹Jonah,˺ the Man of the Whale, who cried out ˹to Allah˺, in total distress.1
— Dr. Mustafa Khattab, the Clear Quran
Then be patient for the decision of your Lord, [O Muḥammad], and be not like the companion of the fish [i.e., Jonah] when he called out while he was distressed.
— Saheeh International
Had he not been shown grace by his Lord, he would have certainly been cast onto the open ˹shore˺, still blameworthy.
— Dr. Mustafa Khattab, the Clear Quran
If not that a favor [i.e., mercy] from his Lord overtook him, he would have been thrown onto the naked shore while he was censured.1
— Saheeh International
Then his Lord chose him, making him one of the righteous.
— Dr. Mustafa Khattab, the Clear Quran
And his Lord chose him and made him of the righteous.
— Saheeh International
The disbelievers would almost cut you down with their eyes when they hear ˹you recite˺ the Reminder,1 and say, “He is certainly a madman.”
— Dr. Mustafa Khattab, the Clear Quran
And indeed, those who disbelieve would almost make you slip with their eyes [i.e., looks] when they hear the message, and they say, "Indeed, he is mad."
— Saheeh International
