وَ لَ ءِنْ اَذَقْنٰهُ
اَذَقْ نَا هُ نَعْمَآءَ
نَعْ مَآ ءَ بَعْدَ
بَعْ دَ ضَرَّآءَ
ضَرّ رَآ ءَ مَسَّتْهُ
مَسّ سَتْ هُ لَیَقُوْلَنَّ
لَ ىَ قُوْ لَنّ نَ ذَهَبَ
ذَ هَ بَسّ السَّیِّاٰتُ
سَىّ ىِ آ تُ عَنِّیْ ؕ
عَنّ نِىْ اِنَّهٗ
اِنّ نَ هُوْ لَفَرِحٌ
لَ فَ رِ حُنْ فَخُوْرٌ
فَ خُوْٓ رْ
But if We give them a taste of prosperity after being touched with adversity, they say, “My ills are gone,” and become totally prideful and boastful,
— Dr. Mustafa Khattab, the Clear Quran
But if We give him a taste of favor after hardship has touched him, he will surely say, "Bad times have left me." Indeed, he is exultant and boastful -
— Saheeh International
