˹O believers!˺ Always turn to Him ˹in repentance˺, be mindful of Him, and establish prayers. And do not be polytheists—

[Adhere to it], turning in repentance to Him, and fear Him and establish prayer and do not be of those who associate others with Allah

˹like˺ those who have divided their faith and split into sects, each rejoicing in what they have.

[Or] of those who have divided their religion and become sects, every faction rejoicing in what it has.1
— Saheeh International
When people are touched with hardship, they cry out to their Lord, turning to Him ˹alone˺. But as soon as He gives them a taste of His mercy, a group of them associates ˹others˺ with their Lord ˹in worship˺,

And when adversity touches the people, they call upon their Lord, turning in repentance to Him. Then when He lets them taste mercy from Him, at once a party of them associate others with their Lord,
— Saheeh International
becoming ungrateful for whatever ˹favours˺ We have given them. So enjoy yourselves, for soon you will know.

So that they will deny what We have granted them.1 Then enjoy yourselves, for you are going to know.

Or have We sent down to them an authority which attests to what they associate ˹with Him˺?
— Dr. Mustafa Khattab, the Clear Quran
Or have We sent down to them an authority [i.e., a proof or scripture], and it speaks of what they have been associating with Him?
— Saheeh International
If We give people a taste of mercy, they become prideful ˹because˺ of it. But if they are afflicted with an evil for what their hands have done, they instantly fall into despair.

And when We let the people taste mercy, they rejoice therein, but if evil afflicts them for what their hands have put forth, immediately they despair.
— Saheeh International
Have they not seen that Allah gives abundant or limited provisions to whoever He wills? Surely in this are signs for people who believe.
— Dr. Mustafa Khattab, the Clear Quran
Do they not see that Allah extends provision for whom He wills and restricts [it]? Indeed in that are signs for a people who believe.
— Saheeh International
So give your close relatives their due, as well as the poor and the ˹needy˺ traveller. That is best for those who seek the pleasure of Allah,1 and it is they who will be successful.

So give the relative his right, as well as the needy and the traveler. That is best for those who desire the face [i.e., approval] of Allah, and it is they who will be the successful.
— Saheeh International
Whatever loans you give, ˹only˺ seeking interest at the expense of people’s wealth1 will not increase with Allah. But whatever charity you give, ˹only˺ seeking the pleasure of Allah—it is they whose reward will be multiplied.

And whatever you give for interest [i.e., advantage] to increase within the wealth of people1 will not increase with Allah. But what you give in zakāh,2 desiring the face [i.e., approval] of Allah - those are the multipliers.3
— Saheeh International
It is Allah Who created you, then gives you provisions, then will cause you to die, and then will bring you back to life. Can any of your associate-gods do any of this? Glorified and Exalted is He above what they associate with Him ˹in worship˺!

Allah is the one who created you, then provided for you, then will cause you to die, and then will give you life. Are there any of your "partners" who does anything of that? Exalted is He and high above what they associate with Him.
— Saheeh International
Corruption has spread on land and sea as a result of what people’s hands have done, so that Allah may cause them to taste ˹the consequences of˺ some of their deeds and perhaps they might return ˹to the Right Path˺.

Corruption has appeared throughout the land and sea by [reason of] what the hands of people have earned so He [i.e., Allah] may let them taste part of [the consequence of] what they have done that perhaps they will return [to righteousness].
