لَوْ لَٓا اِذْ
اِذْ سَمِعْتُمُوْهُ
سَ مِعْ تُ مُوْ هُ ظَنَّ
ظَنّ نَلْ الْمُؤْمِنُوْنَ
مُ ءْ مِ نُوْ نَ وَ الْمُؤْمِنٰتُ
وَلْ مُ ءْ مِ نَا تُ بِاَنْفُسِهِمْ
بِ اَنْ فُ سِ هِمْ خَیْرًا ۙ
خَىْ رَنْ وّ وَّ قَالُوْا
وَ قَا لُوْ هٰذَاۤ
هَاذَٓا اِفْكٌ
اِفْ كُمّ مُّبِیْنٌ
مُ بِىْٓ نْ
If only the believing men and women had thought well of one another, when you heard this ˹rumour˺, and said, “This is clearly ˹an outrageous˺ slander!”

Why, when you heard it, did not the believing men and believing women think good of themselves [i.e., one another] and say, "This is an obvious falsehood"?
