˹For˺ your Lord is truly vigilant.
— Dr. Mustafa Khattab, the Clear Quran
Indeed, your Lord is in observation.
— Saheeh International
Now, whenever a human being is tested by their Lord through ˹His˺ generosity and blessings, they boast, “My Lord has ˹deservedly˺ honoured me!”
— Dr. Mustafa Khattab, the Clear Quran
And as for man, when his Lord tries him and [thus] is generous to him and favors him, he says, "My Lord has honored me."1
— Saheeh International
But when He tests them by limiting their provision, they protest, “My Lord has ˹undeservedly˺ humiliated me!”
— Dr. Mustafa Khattab, the Clear Quran
But when He tries him and restricts his provision, he says, "My Lord has humiliated me."
— Saheeh International
Absolutely not! In fact, you are not ˹even˺ gracious to the orphan,
— Dr. Mustafa Khattab, the Clear Quran
No!1 But you do not honor the orphan
— Saheeh International
nor do you urge one another to feed the poor.
— Dr. Mustafa Khattab, the Clear Quran
And you do not encourage one another to feed the poor.
— Saheeh International
And you devour ˹others’˺ inheritance greedily,1
— Dr. Mustafa Khattab, the Clear Quran
And you consume inheritance, devouring [it] altogether,1
— Saheeh International
and love wealth fervently.
— Dr. Mustafa Khattab, the Clear Quran
And you love wealth with immense love.
— Saheeh International
Enough! When the earth is entirely crushed over and over,
— Dr. Mustafa Khattab, the Clear Quran
No! When the earth has been leveled - pounded and crushed
— Saheeh International
and your Lord comes ˹to judge˺ with angels, rank upon rank,
— Dr. Mustafa Khattab, the Clear Quran
And your Lord has come1 and the angels, rank upon rank,
— Saheeh International
and Hell is brought forth on that Day—this is when every ˹disbelieving˺ person will remember ˹their own sins˺. But what is the use of remembering then?
— Dr. Mustafa Khattab, the Clear Quran
And brought [within view], that Day, is Hell - that Day, man will remember, but how [i.e., what good] to him will be the remembrance?
— Saheeh International
They will cry, “I wish I had sent forth ˹something good˺ for my ˹true˺ life.”
— Dr. Mustafa Khattab, the Clear Quran
He will say, "Oh, I wish I had sent ahead [some good] for my life."1
— Saheeh International
